laws of manu

Been busy the last two days with friends from Germany. Talking about various things eg. sexuality in India and how come the land of the Kama Sutra has resulted in a nation of prudes. Or is it? We dont have the right picture? Will someone more knowlegeable about this please get back? Have been talking about "The Laws of Manu" eg, but I am sure it wasn't Manu alone who was responsible for the shift in thinking.
